Default The 5, that's right, 5 Amigos!

Hello to everyone. 2001 D2 with 124k miles, rear coil conversion done by a previous owner, stock front suspension and stock brakes - with the 3 amigos.

I was traveling home today on pavement, not on a rough road, when I noticed my "BRAKE" light and Off Road Mode Warning Lamp on. This is in addition to my 3 Amigos. The truck didn't seem to brake, turn, steer, or drive any differently. Admittedly my brakes are in need of replacement. They pulse upon braking, and there is a fair bit of brake dust.

When I got home I checked my reservoir - full, clear fluid and no leaks. Next I checked my codes and found a P1590 (Rough Road Fault). I cleared the code and then checked again - no codes. I broke out my ABS Amigo:

1.--Current Faults---->
Active Faults:
114:Shuttle Valve Electric Failure
Logged Faults:
Front Left Sensor Bad Output
114:Shuttle Valve Electric Failure
<-END Faults

Now I've read various posts in my search that suggest that my ABS (or lack thereof) is the cause for the 1590. But I haven't had this code until today, and I've had the Amigos for a while. My question is do you guys think the new lights and 1590 are a result of my Amigos, or is this something possibly new? Thanks for your ideas.

The ABS, traction control, and hill descent control lights are lit in the dash is "los tres amigos" because they usually all come on together.

I would suggest you follows Josh's guide lines and rebuild the module with new seals and shuttle valve, also reground the module while you are at it, flush the brakes with 2 quarts of DOT 4, clear the codes and see if the sensor is still showing up.
As for the 1590 code, always shows up with the 3 amigos and can't be cleared till the brake repairs are made.

Thanks for the input to those that responded. Mike - I'm really thankful to have you chime in. I looked into Josh's writeups some time ago. I guess now's the time. I'll post back my findings.

Have a good weekend,
Steve

Do both of his repairs even though it may not indicate the shuttle vakve, while you are in there save doing it later.

x2. When I caught a case of the Amigos this year, my shuttle valve switch tested bad with my multimeter, but there was no evidence of the seals leaking. Everything was perfectly dry. I replaced the switch, seals, and did the ground repair simply because I did not want to do it again in the next few years because of another problem.

senor/ senora.
los tres amigos es un códigos de falla de los frenos. (ABS) que tiene este problema? se necesita un lector de códigos de ABS para averiguar lo que está mal.
Mi español es mi segundo idioma, lo siento por los errores. Yo hablo Inglés mejor.
