60,000 miles & check engine light came on
my 2003 Discovery just turned 60,000 miles & as soon as it did the Service Engine light came on.
My Question is --- Does the Light come on when it turns 60,000 to reminf you to have your 60,000 mile check-up done ? -
or is there something wlse that might be going on - thank you.

As far as I know the CEL doesnt come on to let you know you need servicing (it doesnt on my 1999 but I'm not sure if they changed things). I would go to your local Advanced Auto and ask them to read your engine codes and then get back to us with what they find.
With my Range Rover, the Service Engine Soon light did mean that it was due for service and not an engine problem. The CEL orCheck Engine light, a separate light, means something different, i.e. an engine problem. It could be that in03, the Discos used that same set-up that the Rovers did but I am not sure. It wouldn't hurt to run it by the auto store and run the codes just to be safe or I'm sure Disco Mike will chime in with the exact answer.

At 60k your emissions need to be checked, the light is a reminder.
