Default 90 000 trouble free miles....then an electrical?

I love our 2003 Discovery. It has been a spectacular car.Certainly more comfortable than my old 1973 88 series 2 ! That short wheelbase drove all over South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mocambique when I was fresh out of the army! Pulling a Brenderup horse trailer, or my flyishing raft especially, it is a great car.

This 2a Discovery developed an unusual tendency which is hard to duplicate. The windscreen wipers would be inop periodically, fine one drive, working another. Related to that, the front foglamps would not work when the wipers were inop either. The moment the radio would turn off on the drive (uncommanded) you knew the fogs and windscreen wipers were back on line! If you pulled up and turned the car off, and the radio stayed on, then you knew the fogs and windscreen wipers were inop ..... Baffling. The dealer had it for three days, replaced the fuse box, @ a sum not worth mentioning in polite company, to no effect of fixing the problem. More to follow there I guess.

Just thought I would throw this out here and hope somebody might have a clue as to what could possibly be the cause of this bizarre process. I also wondered whether anybody could recommend a good Land Rover mechanic around Athens or East Atlanta? I feel I might need a name for the future. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I am open to all suggestions )

I had some of those symptoms on my d2, it turned out that part of the wiring harness was loose and bad, had to do a lot of investigating on where the harness was loose but once I found it all of the problems were gone… I would suggest that you get a good mechanic who is familiar with these cars and you would fair better than having the dealer trouble shoot, it seems like they do the same thing world wide, my fuse boxes were the first thing they R&R but the problems still persists, until we had the harness checked..

Well, those that said wiring harness, feel proud, because that is what it was. The vehicle was in the area, replicated the problem, andwe took it to the dealer, who then could trace the fault more efficiently.

I am just happy the Discovery is back to its happy self. Just in time for my wife to go to a horse show tomorrow. Personally, I would prefer to own another Discovery, get rid of the horse, and pocket all the money I would save!

Thanks for the response to my question. This is a great forum with a bunch of level headed land rover owners!

Love thy Landy

Paul
