Default 95 Disco. Help

Hi, I am new to these forums. I just bought a 1995 Disco as is. I got a really good deal on it, which is why i purchased it not running. When I first got the car, only one spark plug had combustion. When I turned the car over you could tell. I changed the spark plugs and all of the spark plug wires. I also changed the oil and cleaned the throttle body. ( the previous owner didnt take good care of this car as far as the engine maint. ) Now I turn the car over for 20 seconds while floured and the car will start, only to shut off 20 seconds later. Sometimes I can turn the car over for a minute and it still will not run. Whenever I turn the car over you can hear and feel the engine combust but it just wont get going. Can anyone Help?

Thanks

Sounds like you have a bit of work to do. Should be fun though.

Replace the cap and rotor if your Rover engine has one. If you don't know, its the round cylinder that the spark plug wires attach to. Also, the idle control valve may need to be replaced (IAC). Try these two things first and get back to us if it works or not.

I just went through this problem as well. What kind of sparkplugs did you put in? I had Champions and they didnt work and neither did autolites, NGK plugs did the trick for me. Apparently rovers are picky.Test each wire from the distributor, i did this by pulling it off the plug and sticking a screwdriver into it to contact the metal, then i placed it so i could watch it while starting and tried to turn over engine. If you see a spark then the distributor and rotor as well as coil are fine.

The above poster left out ignition coil. Try that part as well, if you can try a can of ether, ive had great luck with ether getting hard to start cars going. Once you try coil wires rotor and distributor cap as well as maybe some different plugs let me know. If you do get it started buy a can of seafoam and clean that engine out.

Replace the fuel filter. It is behind the right rear wheel bolted to the frame.

Be careful how long you keep trying to crank the engine. Most vehicle makers recommend engaging the starter for n more than 15 seconds and then allow it to cool for 2 minutes. Constantly cranking will burn up your starter.

Have you checked to make sure all the cylinders are getting fuel?
