Hello all.
I have a chance to purchase a 95' discovery but the previous owner states in has trouble sometimes to put in reverse.
Is there an electronic switch that might be going bad. I also heard there might be a transmission oil filter that might have to changed?
I believe it has 130k miles on it.
thanks
tony

Tony-slow to engage reverse is a sign that the transmission filter is clogged. Not just on Rovers but almost all cars.
First thing I would do is check the trans fluid level, is it full? What color is the trans fluid? What does it smell like?
Also ask yourself "do I really want to buy a neglected trk?" If he let the transmission get this bad what else is he hiding?

If you are serious about this trk take it to a mechanic and have them give it a once over, it will cost you around $50.
If you dont want to spend that and are willing to chance it, take it to AutoZoneand have the check engine light codes read, i assume that the CEL is on and post the codes on here.
And just so you know, you MUST use premium gas in a LR.

And for new buyers, even a good looking running truck down the road will need some money put into it. I've learned and read of course. Wonderful trucks if cared for and willing to spend money into. Read as much as you can on the fourms. go to the search and type in key words and read up. Many have been answered and will give you an idea on what your thinking about buying into. Hope to see you more here.
