Nope - not losing coolant. But the woman I bought it from had to replace a radiator hose. How can I clear the codes to see if they come back? Is it possible they are lingering from a previously fixed problem?

New engine?! That's a joke...right??

the codes will come back until you get your truck fixed.

are you having any trouble with warm starts?

the radiator hose replaced is normal for a truck thats 14 yrs old. they dry out.

I'm hoping someone "more familiar with these codes" can give me some good news though. :-)
Sorry, don't want to needlessly scare you, that's why I reserved full commentary. I first thought you likely just needed a new temp sensor and spark plug wires. Then when I saw the cat converter codes caused by misfires I started to think you had a head gasket starting to blow. But you say you're not losing any coolant - so now I'm back to thinking temp sensor and spark plug wires again.

The wires you're going to need in any event, so I'd say start with picking up the wires and temp sensor first. I'd hold off on the coils. You're getting misfires on pretty much every bank and it's unlikely all your coils would have chernobyled at the same time. It's the cause of the multiple misfires that causes concern. That much arcing on that many wires is also highly unlikely - but coolant in the combustion chamber certainly would explain it.

Sit tight for a bit. Wait til a few others have chimed in and hopefully more light will get shed on it...

On a side note - Do you know if the previous owner was skimping on gas and NOT using premium? You ARE using ONLY premium right?

I am afraid you have just taken the first step on a steep slippery slope known as the Money Pitt Trail. Not very many survivors but a lot of dead carcasses litter every level place where a vehicle could land. A few brave souls do manage to negotiate their way at least partially.

If you are persistent, imaganative, and somewhat lucky you will have fun in ways you have yet to imagine. Or you could cut your losses and bail out early.

If you are already scared, and don't have a lot of disposable income, proceed very, very cautiously. And learn the scared Rover Gods Chant that you must never forget to offer before you get to far over your head.

Oh, they were not correct about a new engine, since those are not manufactured any longer. They meant a different engine, such as a rebuilt or used one.

But you can't even buy a storage unit that cheap anymore, so even if it doen't run much longer.........................

Forgive my dry humor approach, keep up the faith.

my guess is the coolant temp sensor and spark plug wires as well, but to be sure he should really use an ohm meter to check the sensor. if he is having trouble with warm starts then its def the sensor because at the truck gets warmer a default temp value is sent to the computer based on the air intake temp and the fuel mix is effected and that is what causes the misfires and cat problems.

Let me add my tears to the trail of sorrow.

My 2000 Disco just starting acting up as we were using it to tow a trailer whilst moving from our old house to our new. (not REALLY that big of a deal it was only a 1/4 mile down the road).

NO power at all.. starting with a hesitation he first day, then the second day it had NO power. Had to put in Sport mode, and get up to HIGH RPMs to get it to highway speed.

It's at the fix it shop right now and they are telling me $1875 for new Ignition Coil, Spark Plugs and wires. They were reading to me out of the repair manual about removing the top of the engine, and replacing seals.. etc.. etc..

I thought the Ignition Coil was on back of the engine.. hard to get to, but I don't have to tear apart the engine to get to it do I??

Anyways, any help, as always, would be much appreciated.

Start with new plugs are wires, then clear the codes and see what ones come back.

A bad coolant temp sensor can cause the ECU to think the engine is running to hot or to cold and will adjust the fuel mixture accordingly.

To clear the codes you need a OBDII scanner, you can buy one or rent one.
