Default 2002 Disco2 needs U-joints

Anyone have a good recommendation for replacement u-joints (F & R driveshaft) and CV joints (F driveshaft) for my 2002 Disco2?

Called Tom Woods and was told the only option he has is a custom driveshaft for $370......and I'm not yet at the point with this new (for me) rig that I want to go that route.

Any thoughts/input appreciated......JDQ

To add more info........it's not that I am trying to be cheap (or am I kidding myself here??? )......it's just that I would prefer to replace just the joints in the CV and the U-Joint, but if the best thing to do is replace the driveshaft with a Tom Woods, please let me know. Note: I'll be doing pretty much all and any work req'dmyself.

Advice requested andstill appreciated.

DiscoMike.....what do you think???

new u-joints in a drive shaft is common, no need for a whole new driveshaft....unless you've lifted the suspension and need a longer DS. Only advice I have is get a ball joint/u-joint service tool from Harbor Freight for about $30, and I prefer sealed units without the grease zerk(they're stronger, i.e. not hollow).

If you are wanting to replace the u-joints, especially the two in the constant velocity section, do not go cheap, don not use non servicable u-joints their failure rate is too well known in the Rover world.
Go buy some good u-joints like the Gold seals at,
http://www.4xshaft.com/index.html
For other reader info, u-joints made with out greas fitting are cheaper and prone to failing unless you you the high end racing u-joints which are not made for a daily driver. They may be stronger but the needle bearing fry under continuous use.

Mike,

Thnaks for the reply and the info. Yes, I am looking to redo the Front Driveshaft CV.

On your recommendation from our phone call last Sat, I gave Tom Woods a call and spoke with Tom Woods himself. He told me the only applicaiton that he had for the Disco2 that included Gold Seal U-Joints was for me to buy a whole driveshaft for $370.00.

Question, have you purchased individual Gold Seal U-Joints from Tom Woods before and is there just some confusion here?

Do you have a Tom Woods part# for reference?

Please advise.......I do not want to cheap out but would also prefer not to have to replace the whole driveshaft just to get the Gold Seals.......and....my local Napa dealer has the 344 U-Joints referenced on RangeRovers.net, but I suspect that those may be "taking the cheap" route as they do not look really "beefy" in the pictures online.
