How many miles on the engine? If the engine turns over OK, then start with a fuel filter, then a fuel pump relay, then check the fuel pressure when hot and try to start.

Default starting problem

the problem is the starter doesn't engage. can hear something behind the glove box clicking but nothing under the hood. then when it cools down it starts normal.

I am haveing the same problem 98 Disco 1 I turn the key and absolutely nothing happens. Not one sound. It seems like the ignition or no power getting to the starter.

It is the starter going bad, these starters get "hot spots" on them and when it stops on that spot it wont turn over, bump the key a couple of times and she starts just fine.

This could also be a problem with the fuel temp sensor.

http://www.roverparts.com/TechTips/h...t_problems.cfm

I had this same problem and I ended up with a bad fuel pump.

The problem used to be very intermittent, then got progressively worse with other problems. New Fuel Pump and New Fuel Temp Sensor fixed this (and many other) problems.
