98 disco 4.0 rough idle will not run
Thanks, I already have it all taken apart, I didnt know whether to remove the intake or not. thank goodness I dont, I really didnt want to mess with the linkage. I removed a spark plug, It is has some carbon buildup, bu nothing that closes the gap. they are champion brand. Any recommendations on plug and wire brands? I will go ahead and install new plugs and wires. I removed the throttle position sensor, I know that there is a way to test it with an ohm meter, any one know let me know! thanks everyone for all the help so far!
DO NOT mess with your TPS.
Your problem is your plugs and wires, thats it. New plugs and wires and a clean t-body and you will be fine.
At most you may need a new stepper motor, but do the tune up first.
If you read my thread you will see what plugs and wires I used.

Magnacor wires and Bosch +4 plugs have been tested and held up. I have them on mine. Not saying Spikes aren't good, but he just put them on. No one has tried them before.
Thank you both, I think I will get what has been proven, just like rovers!
I have never used one of these smiley faces before, it so there it is. There wont be another. I will let you know once the stuff is on!
Thanks again

OK. replaced plugs and wires, still runs very bad. what next? Also, when I started it after cleaning throttle body, dark greyish water is sputtering out of exhaust. stopped when warmed up though. any thoughts anyone?
well now it has taken a turn. i now have a high idle and the engine is responsive. idles around 1800 rpm. put it in gear, decided to not run. cel is still on. what the deuce....
Check all of your vacum lines.
We can try and figure this one out together, my truck just started doing the exact same thing today.
Did my tune up last week, idle was still alittle rough, double checked my work, all good.
Did a induction cleaning, cleaned t-body and stepper motor and once I put it back together now it idles at 2500rpm.
I got mad and gave up for tonight.
Back at it tommorrow.
I am going to start by looking for vacum leaks.
I know it is something simple and stupid, just have to find it.

Yeah, i talked to a friend who suggested spraying carb cleaner on all lines while running. If they leak, it should suck it in and raise idle even more. I did that and no affect. Also on the intake, no effect. tunred it off, unplugged my maf, started it and it idled around normal, didnt want to really run but slight tapping of the gas and it set at an idle of around normal. turned it of agian, plugged it back in and im up to 1800. At least i know there is no stuck valve, i guess we are dealing with something simpler. Where is the stepper motor. is it back where the linkage is?
