98 disco? 4.0 wont start, please help.
[align=left]Please help me fix my girlfriends car. 98 discovery, 4.0, a/t, wrecked at some point. I work at a dealership as a entry level tech. She got gas, drove .1mi. to car wash, vacuum, start to pull in bay, wash exterior no start. tested fuel at intake rail 40psi., 30 ish cranking, good gas.Towed to work (dealership) Seemed to misfire,(master tech helped me check, power to coil pack, injectors, spark was erratic then more consistent, no start. Today checked for codes, ., cleaned plugs, rechecked fuel, NEW OEM Crank Position Sensor.PID not showing R.P.M, no start. It was stumbling on like four right after I cleaned, gapped plugs. Never wet (out twice). What gives the coil packs, (Eight I think) order and sequence? ECU plug has some wires that havw been probed, and gotten quite hot(blistered insulation). Also what are the three or four wires coming out above the crank? I though it was the CPS untill I opened the new one. Is there a way for us( Hammersley Motor Group. Lynchburg, BMW, Benz, Merc, Volvo, the Rover tech at our dealership in another town had great tips, but it got to be five this afternoon.) It had run great for the year she's owned it.Check us out on the web. I'm sure Bridget in online parts would hook u guys up.

Don't really have a clue. If you have good fuel pressure and spark, I don't know where to go. Have you pulled a plug wire to see how strong your arc is?
Ok, thinking through this....check the connector to the MAF. Unplug it, try to start, and plug it back in and make sure it is seated well. If you have a new MAF, throw it on and see what it does.
Not sure what wires you are talking about. If you mean on the front, it is the oil pressure switch.

I'm looked over what you did and it is what I would have
looked at, you looked at crank sensor did you check the cam
sensor.
This may help http://www.roverparts.com/TechTips/

well, aside from someone other then the guy with the problem saying it is fixed, hears my input... those wires that you said you didnt think is the cam sensor, are. goes right there, also is what is reponsable for controlling injection timing, ie, no signal, no fuel in intake... just a side note, but there are 4 coils, duel spark system, 2 cyls fire together on each fire... 1-6, 8-5, 4-7, 3-2. the GEMS engine have a tendancy for the cps to short out and fail, sometimes this can kill the ecm, hope not in your case
