'99 DII Key fob/Remote issues
New here, so please break me in...
Battery died in my remote, so I replaced it. Now, Disco does not lock/unlock using remote.
Here's what I have been able to determine so far:
• When I depress either button, red led does not light on remote.
• If I press and hold lock, headlights light as they should, so I know remote is talking to the vehicle.
• No alarm lights on dash
• pressing and holding lock button lights the led. Sometime it flashes a bit then goes steady. No clue how I get it to go off...
Anyone know how to fix this? I am 100 miles from nearest dealer, so it's not easy to drop by and have them look at it.
Thanks!
Aaron

RE: '99 DII Key fob/Remote issues
I took Disco Mike's advice (sort of) and tried a new battery... Still same thing. So, I started looking around. All of the components are surface mount, so not much to do there...
I found that if I pressed on the battery holder, I could get it to work. So, I thought it was a bad/dirty contact. That didn't fix it, so I started looking closer.
Looks like one of the legs of the main IC chip had a bad solder joint and had lifted enough to break contact. Pressure on the battery holder flexed the board enough to bring it into contact with its pad.
So, I'm waiting on iron to warm up so I can re-solder it to the board.
Hopefully that will fix it!
