resetting remote entry(key FOB)

Default resetting remote entry(key FOB)
The btry died on my remote. I've replaced the batteries but it doesn't work. Can't find solution in the manual. she's a 96 RR 4.6 HSE. Is there a procedure to reactivate the remote?

if your door latch is in proper working order, then press and hold lock on the remote, and turn the latch(key in door) to lock and hole it, the locks should cycle, and the remote should then work

I've tried numerous times and no luck. Any other suggestions?
