Default 99 Disco II Turns over but won't start

HI,

I have a 99 Disco II with 83K miles. I went to start my disco a couple days ago and it wouldn't start. Just turns over and turns over but no start. Let it sit overnight and it started the next morning. Drove it, and when i was coming to a stop in traffic it died. Put it in neutral and it started back up. Drove to work and at the end of the day went to start it and no dice. I'm in Houston, TX and it's been around 100 degrees everyday. It seems that it's really hot outside when it won't start but maybe it's just a coincidence.

I searched thru the posts and couldn't find this exact scenario. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks in advanced,

Aaron

Sounds like your crank sensor is failing. When this happens, they will not send a signal to the ECU, indicating the engine is turning over, the ECU will not allow the fuel pump and or the coils to fire when no signal is received.

A $65 part from your local autoparts store and a real PIA DIY job.
It is located on the driverside of the engine at the 3 o'clock position looking at the front of the truck at the back of the engine.

Sounds like a winner Mike. That makes sense that it is that and not a problem with fuel being that when it is running, it runs fine. On autozone's web site I found a Crankshaft Position Sensor. I assume this is a crank sensor. Is that correct?

Thanks again Mike

Don't you hate when they don't come back and tell us how it all worked out?

If they don't post back it must have fixed it. Some thank people, some post what they found, etc. If you were interested in crank position sensor, here's more info.
