Default 99 Discovery II starts then stalls.

Love my Disco, have owned for 12+ years. This problem has taken it out of service all summer.

Was driving 4 months ago and engine just quit. Had it towed home , pulled codes and said CPS. Replaced and started up. Was OK a few weeks, then battery drains in 2 days. Charge battery, dead in 2 days. New battery, same thing.

Now with a new, hot battery, starts, revs to 1100 rpms and dies. Tried another new crank sensor, same thing. New fuel pump, same thing.

While fighting a low battery condition, I did activate the factory car alarm. But disarmed and it appears to be arming and disarming ok now with key and fob.

Is it possible I activated the immobliser (supposedly disabled in US cars) somehow, as that is the only thing that comes up in any search. When it runs, the ignition is cut off before the injectors.

What could be ailing my rover?

Pulled the fuse panel, no signs of corrosion.

If it was immobilized it would never start & die. The starting dying sounds like a bad MAF or dirty IAC. If it was the CPS it would just turn over & not fire up.

Before my off road trip a friend gave me a so called good 4.0L MAF & housing. I needed it to install a 4.0L airbox lid, 4.0L intake tube onto my 04 with a 4.6L. Well after I got back from my off road trip I slapped everything on & went to start it. D2 would fire up, get to about 1k-1.5k and die immediately. I swapped out the actual MAF sensor with a good spare I had (leaving the 4.6L MAF alone), and boom fired up and ran perfectly. So the MAF I was given was indeed bad.

On the battery drain it could all sorts of things from bad grounds, radio, to an alternator that isn’t charging it fully.

Thanks, will look at the MAF.

I thought I saw in the Maintenance Manual that this is exactly what the immobliser will do if tripped, but alarm is silenced. Start with immediate stall.

Can't find my downloaded manual right now.

Unplugged the MAF and it starts. Just ordered one.

Thanks
