Default ABS enguaging at slow speed dry pavement

Hello, 2000 Disco with approx 150 K on it. I've noticed lately that my abs breaking will engage when coming to a slow stop at stop lights. Dry road, no adverse conditions. It just seems to shudder the peddle right before the truck comes to a stop. Not all the time, it's very random.
Is this a warning about pads or something? Checked pads last week. They are all around 30-40% left.

Also, no ABS or fault codes present. I do own an Amigo and it is reading clean.

No, nit a brake warning. Sounds like you've got a wheel speed sensor going bad.

Thanks Alex, I guess i'll just let it continue until I get some codes and can figure out which sensor. I replaced a hub last year, it was pretty easy.
Is that what you would suggest?

You can replace just the sensors. Can you figure out which wheel is grabbing? If you can fight which wheel it is then you can just replace the sensor on which ever wheel is grabbing. If that doesn't fix it then I would take whichever sensor you replaced and replace the sensor on the opposite side with it, but I believe its more likely to be the side that's grabbing.

I'm here to learn because I don't now the answer. I agree it is related to a speed sensor but could it be the ring it grabs its signal from? I ask because I had the same problem on another vehicle, replaced the sensor, and had no change. I replaced the hub in desperation and the problem went away. Of course my data is worthless because the new hub came with yet another new sensor already in place.

Yea, I would say that's possible. Probably unlikely, but possible. Trying a sensor is definitely cheaper than buying an $88 new hub though, so I figure that's probably the best course of action.

True enough... And a much easier swap, top.

I've had similar but more extreme issues. Mine started grabbing like crazy and the speedometer died. I tried cleaning the sensors, which had effect. I then tried repacking the grease in area around the ring, which had no effect. I replaced two hubs, and at least the speedometer started working.

FWIW

BTW, I pulled the ABS fuse so the truck is driveable. You get 3 amigos and a Service Engine Soon light after a while, but the brakes work fine except for no ABS or traction control.

Well Sh*t, I've got a brand new spare sensor. I'll just see if I can locate the wheel and swap it out for starters. Thanks for all the help.
