On a D1, if the single ABS light comes on, you need to get it bacl to the shop before you experience a failure or loss of stopping power. ASAP
This is serious if this is the case. As landrover mentioned, with a ABS light on wouldn't you still have normal brake function. Just no ABS capability.
Not so, on the older vehicles, you can loose your pump/pressure/stopping power, depending on the actual ABS fault. Not wise to tell some he will only loose the ABS function, I have known a number of people who lost their brakes completely. With a new vehicle from 99 and up, yes, you will only loose the SBS, ETC and HDC functions and retain your brakes.

Well do I feel embarassed. The actual yellow ABS light goes out just about as soon as I start forward motion in the vehicle. What is staying on is a red light or letters that say SBS. What is that?

S-upplementary
R-estraint
S-ystem

i.e air bags
