Not quite true spike,

"if" you replace the Hub, you get a sensor with it and its the "factory" style, short lead with plug on it to conenct at the wheel arch.

The long "fly" lead sensors are rubbish imo, Had one on mine and it was installed BADLY, had to repair the loom at the SLABS when fitting the new Hub etc.

The manual does tell you NOT to disturb the sensor, how ever know of MANY people who have replaced them with no issue.

If I had to do it again (minus hub replacement) and all I could get was a long fly lead sensor, I would simply cut and splice that back to the factory plug at the wheel arch......f***k going back to the SLABS, theres just no need to imo

Yeah good to know, at least something useful came out of this.

this may be the TSB on that issue.

But all you need to do is disconnect the wires, spray electric contact cleaner, let dry, and use some dielectric grease and you should never have any corrosion/contact issues... do it as part of your oil change service.... after you grease your prop shafts...

like UP said, if i have to, I will be splicing and re-using my OLD connectors... forget straight wiring into SLABS.

Not arguing that, but I stand by my followup question: *why does the factory service manual* -- you know, the thing they use to train dealer mechanics -- say that the sensors cannot be replaced?

Are you saying we can't trust those lying bastards from Solihull anymore? ;-)

That is not the only error in the manual.

*LET ME EXPLAIN....

The ABS sensor is an item which would never need replacing. The ABS sensor should have a service life exceeding the actual hub. The typical Discovery owner would never see wheel articulation or bush trail dense enough to damage the harness alone. So the typical DII owner might get his hub changed at say XXXk miles and along with that, he would install the supplied sensor.

However because there are owners like us who risk damaging the sensors alone, they do sell the sensors. I would hate to install a new hub/sensor and accidentally snag the sensor and rip it off and the only way to replace it would be to buy a new hub*

F-NO!

In addition, because Rover is constantly updating their manuals and putting out new bulletins, the new ONE PIECE sensor harness has been made to replace the old style because ignorant people don't bother to clean the connections every once in a while....

"Environmental influences or mechanical damage can result in wiring harness malfunction"

*I don't know if any of the above is true... I made it all up but it sorta makes sense to me.

Because they make more money by encouraging dealers to sell a $400 hub.
