Default ABs then the other 2 amigos after ball joint service

I just replaced the ball joints on the front drivers side wheel, which required me to take apart the brake assembly on that corner. Once I started the engine the ABS light came on (and stayed on), I continued to drive 30 yards down the road, then I heard what I assume was the traction control activating after which the traction control and hill descent lights came on (and stayed on). Now I have my first encounter with the 3 amigos.

Have any of you encountered this before or have any suggestions on how I should resolve this?

Have you used a code reader to retrieve the ABS codes?

The problem may have absolutely nothing to do with the work you did. You can't know until you get the codes read.

I can almost guarantee you jacked up one of the wheel speed sensors doing the ball-joints. You will need a OBDII scanner that can read the ABS codes, repair the offending sensor, and then clear the codes with the scanner to get those banditos to leave.

That's a generic "rough road" code. It isn't specific. Almost always pops up with any ABS fault. You need a code reader that can read LR ABS codes. Probably a ABS sensor. Good luck.

P1590 is the "Rough Road" engine code. It sets off when there are ABS codes. You need to read those. The iCarSoft i930, the Autel 619, and Nanocom read them among others. The icarsoft is the cheapest or find a Rover shop that has a Nanocom, etc.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to order iCarSoft i930.

Any advice on resources regarding replacing the ABS sensor?

P1590 is meaningless. It is an engine management code that is always triggered whenever an ABS code is set. You need a reader that can read the ABS codes.

On top of that, an ABS sensor fault code is often caused by bad connector, not the sensor itself. Not just often, in most cases, I'd say, based on forum information.

It's pretty straight forward. Jack up the offended side, remove the wheel. Pull the brake caliper off. Unplug the ABS sensor from harness, remove the bolt holding in the sensor. Fish out the old sensor ( I cut mine to make it easier). Fish in the new sensor (add a little bit of motor oil in the hole before bolting down. Install is reverse.
