AC Compressor noise - Advice please
Thanks Disco Mike.
Is this something I can take care on my own with those freon kits with pressure gauge?
I would like to try this and see if it fixes the problem before taking out to a shop.
I just recorded a video on my phone and can email you if you want to hear. PM your email and I'll send to you.

I've watched the video, and notice that the compressor is not engaged while making the noise. I've also noticed that your vehicle has A.C.E. (the pump just to the left (as seated in the vehicle) of the compressor). You stated previously that your power steering fluid is full. Your power steering reservoir should have two caps: one for the power steering system fluid, and one for the A.C.E. fluid (same fluid). Are both reservoirs at the proper level?
sorry for the delayed reply. yes, both reservoirs are on level. i'm thinking that the bearings in the compressor might be going bad. taking to columbia rovers in portland to be looked at. will keep you posted!
2 caps, no leaks. both reservoirs are on level. took to columbia rovers today and the power steering pump is going bad. i will have to replace soon....
nothing is leaking yet so i have some time to get it fixed.
I was having a similar noise -- a whirring sound that's pitch would increase on acceleration, lower on deceleration, and change with shifts in the automatic transmission. I realized that it was related to the AC when I turned off the AC while I was accelerating and the sound stopped... the AC had just been recharged, so I'm assuming an issue with the compressor. However, the AC still works great.
