Is it a high pitch whine? My D2 does the same thing and I am worried that the alternator or PSP has a bad bearing. I havent T/S it yet

It is high pitch, but the pitch does change with acceleration and deceleration. The most obvious thing is that it goes away when I turn off the AC, which to me says it has to be an AC issue.

Just yesterday the noise started with the AC off, although much quieter... I turned on the AC and the noise is amplified. The most baffling thing is that I don't always hear it and it's not hot or cold engine-specific.

I'm having a hard time diagnosing where it's coming from because it only occurs when in gear and moving.

jamanta or jneil, have either of you found out anything else?

Check your power steering pulley. This sounds very much like my belt noise from a while ago. I thought it was the belt - bought a new one. I replaced the tensioner and idler pulleys. Flipped the belt to run the opposite way. Replaced the belt again. I thought it was the compressor because the noise differed whether I had the cluth engaged or not.

It was finally when the inner-most rib sheared off that I realised the power steering pulley (closest to the A/C pulley) had walked forward on the pump shaft 3/16-1/4".

Look behind your power steering pulley. There is a triangular flange on the shaft that the pulley bolts onto. If there is any space between that flange and the pump body (evidenced by seeing the shiny silver shaft) then the pulley has walked forward.

The only repair is a new pump, unfortunately.

if when you turn on the a/c in max increases the noise definitly you will need a new compressor .Good luck
