Default Ac issues...

So I just got my first landrover discovery today!! I'm super pumped to have it and already working on fixing her up. I have an issue just doesn't seem right and figured best to ask...

The ac... it blows colder air but no where near enough to cool off the vehicle. It gets so hot in there even with the ac on lowest setting and highest blower. I did a diagnostic test on the ac unit inside and didnt show any errors and also made sure had enough frion adding another can today (careful not to overfill) and still seems hot. Is this normal?!

You need gauges hooked up to your ac lines to check what pressure it's runing at
also your condenser fan should come on when ac is turned on or else it ain't cooling
find a hvac guy to maybe check pressures

If the pressures test out okay along with the freon, then I’d honestly inspect your blower box & all it’s seals. 2 of my D2’s have ice cold AC’s but it just never feels cold a few inches out past the vents. Eventually it cools down inside, but the issue is with a nearly 20 year vehicle the seals for defrost, face, and your feet eventually fall apart/break down over time & instead of all the air being directed at your face it’s coming out all over the place behind the dash causing poor air flow.

Best bet is to remove the blower box & reseal it, or live with it. One D2 I have has great seals as it was a CA vehicle vs TX. You can feel the difference vs my other D2’s.

I'll check these out and see...I had it running for two hours almost and never really cooled off. I'll see about having someone out all the parts.

pressure check is a good idea... I think mine has a leak somewhere and since I'm old school I just crank down the windows. I filled it last year after getting it back on the road and after 2 days it was blowing what ever was outside.

Whoever serviced the A/C prior to your ownership may not have properly evacuated the system before filling with R134a. So, even though you see correct fill pressure on the Low side there could be air and moisture in the system. That will certainly cause poor cooling. For the cost of two cans of R134a it is definitely worth pulling a vacuum and refilling before you begin taking the blower plenum components apart.

Also check to ensure the auxiliary electric cooling is not seized. With the engine off sneak a long screwdriver through the grill and see if the fan spins freely. Failure is a common occurrence that also causes poor A/C performance. Pretty easy to swap out a replacement fan in the driveway.
