Add RH keyed entry to LHD DII?
The current problem I'm having with the door lock on my truck reminds me of an idea I had a while back. Can a door lock motor from a right-hand drive truck be installed in a left-hand drive DII? You'd also need the keyed RHD exterior handle (due to the orientation of the attached lever that operates the latch rod) but if this can be made to work it would reduce the risk of being locked out of the truck if the keyless entry and the LH-only keyed entry systems failed simultaneously.
In addition to mounting the motor and handle, which I expect should be relatively easy (!) the wiring would need to be accommodated. I did a quick tour through the RAVE Electrical Library and it seems doable. I have only the LHD version of the RAVE Electrical Circuits PDF so I haven't yet been able to do more.
I'd hope that RHD motors and door handles can be found on eBay UK or eBay Australia, or from UK or Australian dismantlers.
What do y'all think? Doable? Worth the trouble? Thanks.

This is a super interesting idea. If someone goes through with it I may follow suit. I never really even thought about the locks being on different sides, or even the lack of key lock on the passengers side since I'm never over there, but this would still be a neat feature to add. May try it out down the road.
I looked at the Rimmer Bros site and found a Discovery 2 Central Locking page but there is no content. Do you have anything different to offer or do you recommend a phone call?
Being a tightwad I'd of course not want to buy the parts new, but others might and we all might learn something.
I spent some quality time with the RAVE Workshop Manual, Electrical Library and Electrical Circuits PDFs and it appears this mod could be plug and play. More to come on this as I spend more quality time with the documentation, take a look at the connectors in my truck, and/or call Rimmer Bros. At worst the BCU is on the RHS and we'd need to splice into two wires coming from the LHS.
Yeah, I agree, but I think most modern cars have the same setup. All the ones in my household do. The difference, of course, is that they're Japanese and this is a Rover.

I just came up with a far more simple, virtually free solution that I hope to test this weekend.
If anyone wants to play along think Option B. First person to figure out what I'm talking about gets Disco Mike's private phone number.

tie the two in together like the shuttle valve to bypass the bcu
