Default Adding CDL to 02

I picked up a transfer case from a D1 along with the shifter for it for $65. Right now I'm contemplating if I want to swap the whole thing or just the front section that houses the CDL portion.

Which would be easier/quicker?

What year D1, makes a big difference since there were so many changes made on them to correct wear and oiling problems.
To be safe, I would use the hi/low plate and the CDL nose assembly and not the entire D1 case that can surely be warn out.
