I found this in my iPhone notes “Disco 2 cheat sheet” about a substitute purge valve option :
”Fuel Purge Valve replacement - #PLN901 / WTV000060 / WTV100140A for 98-05 Hyundai Sonata. OEM Bosch part #28910-22040

How did you do the seafoam? Through a vacuum line or in the tank?

Yes I used the Hyundi one last time. Was pretty reasonably priced as I recall. But surely it should last well over a year? I'm not going to do anything until I see the CEL. If I've learnt anything on this car its that when you have a problem. ignore it for long enough and it will disappear

I put the seafoam in the fuel as directed on the side of the can. also I didn't overdose it as some people have done in the past i followed the instructions. But I've read enough threads since then to realize that Disco's dont like seafoam.
So I wouldn't recommend using it.

My headlights have since stopped working also. I opened the fuse box last night to find this chunky monkey 40amp fuse was blown
I've never seen a fuse like it before. Should I just buy a hugely over priced replacement ($5) and whack it in?
Or is it an indicator of some other problem with the electronics?

I had no idea Discos don't like seafoam, mine must be odd because it seems to like it the twice a year I use it.

I used to use Seafoam in my petrol tank but the past couple of years I use BG 44K twice a year with better results.

Get a few new fuses/fuselinks, install one, and if it blows again you have a bigger problem that needs troubleshooting.

So... Driving home from work today and guess what ? CEL switched on and 1171 and 1174 are back again
I cant figure these out I have done everything that could possibly need doing and it runs good. But then I noticed at the fuel station I fill up at it says...
"fuel may contain up 10% ethanol" which got me thinking...
Could these different ethanol amounts in the fuel cause the ECU to get confused and try and adapt different spark times/oxygen levels.
I've heard that its not uncommon for fuels to contain way more than the stated amount. Maybe I need to stick with a more reputable retailer???

What kind of fuel are you using? You should be using top tier premium, no supermarket gas, no mid or low grade.

What these trucks don't like is low quality fuel which then requires you to use a product like Seafoam.

Low quality fuel causes the ECU to retard your timing to eliminate the pre-detonation.

Hmmm.... Thanks Dave. Maybe my suspicions are correct. Yeah I find the cheapest place in town and put the cheapest kind of fuel in. I'm thrifty that way. But now I get to think about it a little more... the trouble seemed to coincide with me using that gas station.

Ill switch to a name brand and put some premium in. see if it goes away.
