Put some blue thread lock on bottom 3 cover bolts. The holes are open to the oil. Will keep it from leaking.

 

You can also put thread sealant on those bolts. It's a little more reliable at preventing oil getting past than loctite.

 

Yes, I don't agree with using lock tight on bolts, when only thread sealant is necessary. That way, the bolts are easier to remove, and sealant seals better on threads, as it is formulated for that purpose.

 

 

The Loctite 290 is the Green one, it's both a thread locker and sealer.

 

Thanks, all. I used a bit of blue thread locker on the cover bolts on the end since that's all I had. If it weeps again I'll go with the green Loctite 290 next time around. So far, so good - no leaks.

 

I have not tore into mine so I was wondering...Is there not a gasket there originally that you can buy and that is why you made one?

 

I've never seen a gasket on the cover only silicone. Not sure if the factory used one but there seems to be listings for a cover gasket depending where you look for parts. I'm tired of leaks and it was easy enough to make one, use a bit of Elring Dirko (which I think is the best silicone gasket maker on the planet) and call it a day.

Interesting the Rave calls for the use of wavy washers because I've never seen those on the cover bolts. But I do think it's a very good idea.
