Is there a special way I should clean areas that are next to the engine internals? I have gas, diesel, simple green, razors (some plastic ones too), scotch brite pads, blue disposable shop towels… I think I have brake parts cleaner and carb/choke cleaner here too, also electronic contact cleaner. Would you spray anything like WD40 anywhere? I’ve heard someone say they do that afterward, but they weren’t talking about a rover. I’ve tried to keep dust and stuff out of the engine while it’s open with a plastic sheet, but it might have some stuff in there and I’m worried that would cause an issue. I’d feel better if I could spray something that would clean it up, as well as whatever is safe to use degreasing the areas that are next to all of this so the degreaser doesn’t cause any issues. Do you use WD40 or something else afterward? Thank you

 

This has been discussed before, personally I think it’s a bad idea to try to clean parts that are still installed on the engine, unless you can be absolutely sure you can recover every single bit of grit. If anything falls into the engine you may cause more harm than any good you did by cleaning it.
