I mounted my camera on the underside of the high-level brake light. It's inside the glass so I had to cover the LEDs because there was too much glare to see anything, but otherwise it seems to be an ideal mount point. Run the wires through the existing grommets and sleeves.

I mounted mine under the rain gutter trim top of tail door. Can't see the bumper but does give a good view behind the truck.

Crutchfield says that the 3500NEX is too deep for my 2001 D2. Does yours stick out a bit? (claims 6.985" deep vs 6.665" on the original, which really is only 1/3" so maybe it doesn't matter?)

It is not an issue at all for me. The unit has an option to adjust the tilt angle and how far the flip screen sticks out.

Thanks for all the input. My buddy decided on a Jensen with an 8" screen. None of the 7", nor the Boss 8" line, had Bluetooth NAV, it was all plug-in only. Next question, how do y'all run the wiring for the back up camera? Under the truck and up into the truck through the trans tunnel?

Never tried the tunnel but whichever way you go I would make sure your camera wire is long enough or purchase a camera wire extension before you start pulling trim pieces.

I ran mine along the interior of the US passenger side of the vehicle. Open the rear door and at the passenger-side rear of the vehicle, remove the plastic vent and There is a grommet (unused?) which I poked my wiring through and then sealed with RTV. Then I tucked the wiring under the cargo bin trim and under the carpet of the rear seat area. Then I removed the front/rear kick plates, run wiring in that channel, remove trim in the passenger footwell and fish the wire to your head unit.

That seems like a good approach. Hopefully Crutchfield has the good sense to provide enough cabling!!

When you say kick plates, are you referring to the sill plates that are visible when you open the doors?

Correct, the sill plates; be gentle when you pull the plastic covers (they like to crack/break) and you may want to replace the screws as I found mine were rusty.
