Default Air conditioning.. common failure points.

When I got my disco home the AC was marginal at best. Added some 134a to a reasonable working pressure and it blows colder but still cycles between cool and cold. I assume there is a leak.

Where are the common leak points?

What are you calling good pressures? If you had to add, there's a leak, probably somewhere in the evap. Could be a bad compressor, but that seems kinda rare

Look for oily build up around fittings and tubes/lines. The tubes/lines that run to the condenser go bad, right where they are clamped to the framework of the body (along the drivers side of radiator). Unless you are seeing oily build up behind compresser pulley, doubt it would be that. Usually, if it is the evaporator...you'll get a faint smell of freon with blower on (but, not always...unfortunately). Any connection is a possible problem area, since 15 year old o-rings have a tendency to fail after that many years.

I had to replace the lines to the rear condenser, and could see the leak back there.

My 2000 Disco 2 is having similar issues. Started the passenger side was not cooling and the driver side was mildly cool. Now both sides blow warm. I did the diagnostics and it was negative for any faults. Tried adding Freon while on a road trip and it did nothing for cooling the interior down. I will check for leaks as described above.

Thanks

Yes, if you have a rear condenser, a common failure point is the joint in the coolant line above the wheel well. Replace the pipe with a new one and then sleeve it so it is not abraded through.
