Default Air Injection Adapters

So I need to replace my head gaskets and in looking at the procedures on the RAVE CD it states that I need to remove and replace the 2 air injection adapters in my SAI equipped Disco II. Is it absolutely necessary to do this, and would they be called another name as I can't seem to find them online anywhere under air injection adapters.

Thanks,

Yes, you will have to remove the air adapters on the head after removing the two pipes on them from the air manifold and removing it. This will allow you access to all of the head bolts. I am just not sure that your year has secondary air, but I'm no expert. Maybe someone more familiar with that year can pipe in. JF

From 1999 to 2004 they may have it. Some do some don't from what I understand.

Thanks,
They're called secondary air injection pipes. No, it is not completely necessary to replace them unless you break them while trying to remove them. Make sure you get them tight enough when you put them back on or they will make a ticking sound that sounds like it's coming from inside the engine. Just remove them from the fittings down by the head and take off the two small bolts on the top of each one. Be careful trying to loosen them off mine stuck pretty bad so I doused them with penetrating oil and let them sit while I took some other stuff apart. Take your time on this, it's not worth risking breaking them, they're about $200 each to replace.

I just finished this job, and learned a few things in the process. Just remove the copper pipes per rave instructions, then save the step where you remove the adapter from the head for later. You can wait until after you have the lower manifold off and they will be much easier to remove at that point.
