For question number 2, does your setup look something like this:

As for the 3rd question, I don't have an answer, but have been curious about that as well, and would love to hear feedback on this. I'll probably start a new thread on this, as well.

yeah they look like that. it won't air up because it's not hooked up, but it's not sagging or anything, the springs seem to be plenty strong to keep the truck level without air in the bags.

looks like the air bags you have are only to help when towing or hauling loads that require more lift than the springs will provide....So, in normal situations, like when the truck doesn't have anything attached to the rear bumper, they can be deflated without issue.

Sounds like a unique, but interesting set up. I have an 03 with the stock SLS air bags (no springs) and love that setup, for a variety of reasons. To me it seems like the previous owner has rigged the setup so you can fill the bags when needed by hooking up the new connector under the bumper. Would be interested in seeing pic's, as this type of setup could be used for filling tires, etc...

thx,
rich

yeah I was thinking the same thing about filling tires, but I was also trying to figure out a way I could get the compressor to fill a small air tank I've got in the back so I could switch it on to fill the tank and then use that on either the rear bags or it would also be portable. if I could find someway to do that without getting all sorts of crazy lights and codes on the dash.
I've had the disco about a month and just figured out what the PO did last night. anyway, don't know that I'll have much time to work with it this week because of thanksgiving and finals coming very soon, but when I do get a chance I'll snap some pictures ans post them here if I can figure out how haha.

They half assed the SLS on your truck, if you had coil springs with the air springs as helpers then your truck would not have been on the bump stops.
From what I have been told the air compressor for the SLS is not strong enough to fill a tire or a portable air tank or to run a air locker for the diff.

You can hook your air hoses back up.

this is going to sound bad.....but go to a salvage yard and find a ssei pontiac bonneville, the air ride pump for those is quite capable of tire inflation, in-fact the car has an inflation station in the trunk and comes with a kit to do your tires! I own one so I can verify it! 1992 -1999, 1988-91 sse (no kit) and 2000-2004 (no kit). Pumps under the hood, station is in the trunk.

Default air bag pump

I am having a similar problem.

My 99 disco II , is setting rather level, the back is not sagging at all.
what I don't see, is when I start the car, in the past the pump would raise the back of the car some what, also, when I stop and turn off the car, the pump would let out pressure and re-level its self.
this is not happening at this time.

fuse? - if it is a fuse , where is it located?
height sensors??..would both go out at the same time? and where is a good place to purchase the sensors?

Thanks

Check the rear suspension to see if the arm has let go or the plastic ends have broken on the dogbone looking piece that runs from the rear trailing arm to the load level sensor. If it has let go the pump may not run because it's not being told to.
