Default annoying tapping or ticking sound when idle

Hi
I have a 2000 Disco with 66,000 miles on it. Just did an induction cleaning. Had an annoying tapping or ticking sound before. After the induction cleaning I still have it but is seams to be trying to go away. What do you recommend to stop this?

Does the sound increase in frequency when you rev the engine?

it does not make any tapping or ticking sound when the pedal is on the gas. Only when sitting at a light or in a park position.

Mine does that too. Sounds like lifters to me.My 50 year old tractor engine is quieter then my rover.

Run 0w30 Mobil 1. After Seafoam, ATF flush, and switching to 0w30 synthetic the ticking went away.

Cheers,

Pete

Take a short piece of rubber hose and stick one end to your ear, the other end against the engine listening for the noise, move around and pin point where it is coming from.

Is 0w30 ok for an engine with 145,000 miles?

Thank you,
Willie

Depends on where you live Willie. It might be fine for the winter time, depending on where you live.
0W-30 will be to thin if it only gets down into the 30's at night.
If it gets down below 20 and stays colder, like in the 30's during the day then that oil would be fine.
If your idea of cold is 40, then go away.
You will need a thicker oil for the winter.

It's still a 30 weight oil once it reaches operating temperature, which Rover does recommend. It just stays a little less viscous at the same temp than a 5W or 10W when 'cold', which I think is always good for any cold start-ups no matter what the temp. People seem to use a 30 wt., a 40 or even 50 wt. oil with no problems. I have some M1 0W-40 I'll be putting in next, that sounds like a happy medium.
