So lipadj46 would the front cover gasket be the time gear gasket? if so dang. Do I need to worry about messing up the timing and do I need to use the specific tools the workshop manual is recommending? Thanks for the help.

 

Got the H20 pump off tonight and the leak is the top right hand side of the front gasket cover (when looking at the engine drivers side). I've been reading but can't find much on how difficult of a repair that is to do. I read somewhere that I would need to drop the oil pan is that correct? Should I just follow the workshop manual and do I need the tools is says that I need? Thanks for any help.

 

Yes the front cover is the timing cover

Yes you need to drop the oil pan

No you will not mess with your timing there is a key in the timing/oil gears and the crankshaft that line up so there is only one way to put things back together. Getting it back together is tough I put the crankshaft to TDC and the gears to TDC and that seemed to make it easier to line them up.

You don't need the special tools in the shop manual though some seal pullers, pulley holder and seal drivers would make the job easier and faster

The timing cover repair is not that bad. You do need a 36mm wrench to get the fan off.

Just follow the workshop manual and post any questions you may have along the way.

Use permatex thread sealer (not thread locker) when called for. Also using the purple permatex sticky gasket sealer stuff helps when fitting the new gaskets.

 

I need some help. I spent 3 hours today trying to lossen the crankshaft pulley bolt and it is stuckk badly. Are there any secrets to get it off? I have tried some wd40 to take the rust off. I have tried rust off, Impact wrenches, and hand wrenches. I have tried clockwise and counter clockwise and nothing changed. The darn pully continues to move. I got everything ready to do the repair but I'm stuck.

 

I must be a doob I have been working on it the entire day and I'm not done yet. I have the water pump on and the timing cover but the oil pan is not fiting. Do I need to take the timing cover off again so that it will fit or is there a way for me to get it on. Thanks for any and all help. I HOPE THAT IT IS WORTH THE TIME I'M TAKING.
