Thanks! It actually is a pretty thick gauge wire. 12 gauge, same as what was on the fan, it just has a thin hard insulation. I do need to put some heat shrink on though!

Badass! Thanks for posting this thread; if my cheapo ebay fans don't cut the mustard, the Mustang fan is next.

Now if I can just find the time to turn a wrench...

I hope they work better for you than they did for me! I think they will since the blade design is different. Good luck!

Update on gas mileage. I've only been through one tank so far, but it was almost entirely the same conditions as the previous tank. Drum roll please...

13.4 MPG!!!! That is as compared to 11.4-11.5 on the last four tanks, so an incredible 1.9MPG difference. I hope it stays there, I think it will, but I'll update after I've been through a couple more tanks.

Thanks Dgi, I still have mine. I just chopped up the shroud because it was overheating me at highway speed and therefore an epic fail. I can make it work. There will be a more worthy recipient for yours.

Here's what I have...

The pattern on the shroud was, um, my own design. It fixed the highway problem and destroyed its utility at lower speeds. Sigh.

Alex,
Am I understanding correctly that you are still using the shroud that comes with the new fan & just modding the upper mounting? Is there any reason the "full" shroud version would not work?
I am finding both shrouds with 9 blades, but want to be sure before I buy one.
Thanks!
~Matt

There's no reason at all. I actually wanted the full shroud version, but the one I got was cheaper which is why I went with it.

hmm. ok. Wanted to double check after seeing Charlie had issues with his shroud.

On that thought, is the shroud really necessary? I see several 8-bladers so far that are just the fan & no shroud too. They're more inexpensive, but I'm not sure of the CFM on those.

I want to do mine with a controller, so I will have to sort out which one of those to use. I assume I want a Ford part from the same cars as the fan, and I see there are preset & adjustable ones.
