Savannah, this morning I went out with my old lady to listen to the car being fired up... The video is showing exactly my symptoms. I just could not hear it inside the car, even with the window open. Car was in park, transfer case in High. It was rattling around like crazy! What are my options if my transfer case is bad?

1. Try a stiffer fluid, like the 85W150, which should quiet a noisy case.

2. If still noise; Drain. Remove inspection plate (will have to reseal with RTV). Inspect - what is found inside may indicate problem (trash, pieces of a seal, broken gear teeth). Seems like I had to fiddle with a heat shield to get at some of the inspection plate bolts.

3. Plenty of posts about guys pulling TC, replacing seals, etc., or buying a used one. Keep in mind that most Disco's end up in scrap yard due to overheated engine, so a used case is reasonable.

Sounds good, I'll start there. Will post update with what I find. Thanks again for your help!

Just tagging, because I have been experiencing the same "deceleration" noise for a little while myself and it has been driving me nuts. I haven't checked the transfer case yet. I'd say it sounds more like a knocking/rapping noise than a tick to my ear.

I am interested in your findings.

Yeah, it's going on with mine for awhile too... Replaced all the ujoints but didn't fix the noise. It's a kind of knocking/flapping type sound and seems like what's going on in that video is what is happening to my truck Like I said, I'll post my results. Gonna pull the inspection plate to see if I can replicate the video.
