One would think so, but unless the engine has suffered catastrophic damage, they may show wonderful oil pressure at idle and up, once the initial starvation is overcome.

PT, do you have any idea why these gears crack? Besides the misaligned dowels on some of the 03/04, what could cause the gears to crack on all other years? I pulled my gears out at 110k on my 03 which was in the middle of the service bulletin range, and they looked great, yet you hear about cracked gear sets on all years.

I have only encountered them in DIIs. No idea why it happens.

Well it is not all of those in the VIN range, just some of them. If it was all of them there would be a lot more of D2's with replaced engines....

I just certain ones milled by one worker on one assembly line and only on certain days. Land rover didnt even know the exact ones affected so they issued a range of vin#s

While that may be the conventional wisdom on the topic, I have seen exploded oil pump gearsets on all model years of DIIs, but never in a P38 and certainly never in a DI.

I would think depending on how many pieces the gears are cracked into, they could eventually bind up and blast through the front cover. Which I guess would apply to any d2.
