I have an 04 with 110k miles that I call El Diablo because I swear this truck is cursed. Anyway I am pulling together parts to change out coils, wires, and plugs.

While I am in there I thought I might as well change out the valve cover gaskets, rework or get rid of the PCV oil seperator in favor of the in-line, clean up the throttle body, and replace the hose from the block to the overflow tank that has a barb in it from when I bypassed the TBH.

I was wondering if anything else would be appropriate while I am in there. Probably the water pump. Anything else come to mind?

 

Depending where you live and if it's a warm climate, I'd do the throttle body heater plate bypass mod by connecting the two hoses together (#6 & 7 in attached picture).

 

Thats already done. So is the forum consensus that the AIRTEX AW9369 is the way to go on the water pump?

 

Flush/backflush your fuel injectors, verify operation, new o-rings.

 

If you are having any sort of miss or rough running issues, and that is why you are doing the tune up...do a compression test while the plugs are out. That way, if it doesn't run better after doing b the tune up...you'll know the condition of the cylinders. So many times, folks will do a tune up to correct a miss, only to find out later...it wasn't the plugs, coils or wires...and then they have to remove the plugs again to find out the condition of their cylinders. Double work.

Agree with the injector o-rings too...since you will probably be removing the upper manifold anyway. Just do them and be done with the potential issue. These things are getting old, and rubber gets brittle and hard over time.

I always remove the upper intake with the fuel rail still installed on it. That way I don't mess with the fuel injector seals in anyway shape or form.
