I have a 2002 Land Rover Discovery 2. I tow it behind my motorhome. No problem with towing. I'm airways concerned that my battery is going to die because I have to leave the key turned to the first stop. I use magnetic mount lights. I simply stick then to the roof. My question is; are there any issues/concerns if I were to install a battery kill switch to simply turn off the power while towing the Disco would that cause problems that I might not expect?

I know this will erase the radio presets, but I don't care about those.

I've heard of issues with alarm reboot lockout issues if the hood is open (or something like that) so I can install the switch near the bumper where it is accessible without lifting the hood.

I thought about running a charge line from the motorhome but thought that the kill switch might be simplest.

Thoughts?

 

Don't know? Remembered seeing a couple of warnings in the OM. Would assume 0 vdc render same results.

the only downside i can think of would be that the ecu would have to relearn driving dynamics every time you switched the battery on drove the truck. Basically, your engine would be less fuel efficient is all.

 

Why not attach your D2 to the motor home's 12v charging system? You'd essentially be float charging your battery for the entire time the vehicle was in tow.
