Any way to retard the ignition timing so that regular gas (not premium) can be used?

The average driver will save $250 a year with regular gas, does that much money really matter? If $250 is too much, I suggest not owning a Land Rover.

1-I don't disagree with that;...but, hey, if these trucks will run just fine with regular fuel with the knock sensors making the needed adjustments to timing,............and there is no harm to the engine,............why not? As a previous poster suggested, I think most use premium out of fear, and few have ever actually experimented with lower octane rated fuels to see how the trucks run,....again, out of fear.

2- if someone said to you, "if you use this fuel over here instead of that one you have been using, you will NOT harm your truck,....you may have slightly less power under full throttle because the ignition will be retarded a few degrees, but,....at the end of the year, you will be able to take your Wife or S.O. out for a pretty good $250-$500 dinner someplace nice,.....that might not have been in your budget otherwise,.................would you do it?................or does that fear of the unknown get in the way, or,....do you need to brag that you always use nothing but the best in your luxury SUV??

This reminds me a bit of something I have been known to say in the past, "While some folks (like my brother) like to brag about HOW MUCH they pay for things,......I like to brag about how LITTLE I pay for things. One way points to a fat wallet, the other points to a philosphy or a resourceful and generally interesting person of character in my opinion.

3-My 2003 SE7 is really just cheap and cool looking transportation to me. Its immaculate inside and out,...(that's how I keep all my cars and bikes), drives well, looks great, and,....I gave $1000 for it. That's 1/3 of what I paid for my 2002 Explorer 4x4 (also immaculate BTW)

Of course, I have rebuilt and re-balanced the drive-shafts, done the plug wires, valve cover gaskets, Intake plenum gasket, Radiator, brake rotors, windshield, head liner, Painted the fender flares, re-dyed the driver's seat leather and more,....so, now may have $2000 in it.

I hear you, and I wouldn't argue with your post. I'm not out there just trying to dump money everywhere, but I spend it where it should be spent. It pains me to see people put anything less than premium in their motorcycle, it's honestly like $25 dollars more a season to use premium! I put premium in any vehicle that recommends it.

In my Harley's I definitely notice the difference, thus I only ran premium. But on the DII, it's barely negligible and I have not noticed any down side. YET
