Anybody Have Experience with Standard Motor Parts XYZ Switch?
The XYZ switch in my 2004 D2 stopped working. These use the new style switch which doesn't have the fingers in it. I pulled it off (and in the process managed to shear off the threaded portion at the end of the shaft) and opened it up and the same contact was a little burnt that is burnt in all the pictures I found online. I cleaned up the contact, smeared it full of dielectric grease, bolted it back together and re-installed it and it works great. But I'm not sure for how long. Standard Motor Products makes a replacement switch which I have found for around $450. Has anybody used one of these? Just wondering if they are any good.
EDIT: I also found a Wells LU408 at Advance Auto for $353.99. That's the lowest price I've found for any XYZ switch. Supposedly made in Germany. Might just go with that one.

I have no experience with XYZs from either of those suppliers, but I would personally not by a new one at this stage of my truck's life. Dismantlers like Paul Grant will sell and guarantee (for some period of time) used ones, usually ~$100.
I have a backup I pulled from a parts truck at a local boneyard for $10. If my XYZ fails I'll install the backup and rebuild the failed one. Or maybe I should go ahead and test/rebuild the backup now so it's ready to go. Or just go ahead and install it, then rebuild the current switch so I know I have a good backup on hand.

That was my other plan, but the used ones I saw listed online were more than $100. I considered getting one out of a junkyard in my area but they usually have the Discovery's sitting on the ground which makes accessing the xyz switch pretty tough. I'll see if Paul has any for sale.
