Default Anyone else getting free money from Autozone?

I have one of those Autozone cards and since I maintain my rover and many of my families' vehicles I spend a decent amount of money there (mostly other people's money to buy oil, wipers, batteries etc). So far with the card I have gotten $60 cash money (well store credit). I believe they give you $20 for every $100 or so you spend. I do not understand how they make that work but it is pretty cool.

Yes I have one too.
BUT you must beware that if you use your rewards money on something that has a core charge, like a alternator, you will NOT get the money back.

Case in point, this happened to me 2 years ago.
Bought a alternator for $190, $82 core charge, total price, $272.
$40 on rewards card, rest in debit card.
Return the old alternator and they put the $40 back on your rewards card and the rest onto the debit card which takes 7-10 days to actually get credited back to your account.

They use the rewards money towards the core, NOT towards the purchase, so you are out that money, and if you need it you wont get it.

And you must spend $20 to get one reward point, 6 points equals $20.
BUT it is NOT every $20 and get 1 point, it is 1 point per purchase.
So spend $45, get one point, spend $22 get one point.
Buying 2 oxyegen sensors?
Buy them in 2 separate transactions and you will get 2 points.

It is a bit complicated but hell it is a pretty cool rewards system if you shop there a lot for small stuff. I usually spend around $20 for oil change specials there when they have the sales so it has worked out for me. I have a fresh gallon of Rotella 5w40 that cost me a buck fitty.

My AutoZone sucks, the only oil change specials they run are on cheap oil and the STP oil filter and you can only get the oil in a 5w-30.
The other oils are WAY overpriced and the only good oil filters they offer are the Mobil 1 and I refuse to pay $15 for a oil filter.

I have been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 from Wal-Mart ($22 a gallon and my winter oil) and buying my oil filters from NAPA unless Wal-Mart has the Mopar (made by Purolator) oil filter in stock.
My next oil change I am switching to Castrol Tectra 15w-40 ($10 a gallon) and using the same oil filters.

I love discussing motor oil but not enough to join a motor oil forum.
Maybe I should? I do have oil questions.

I buy during the mobil 1 and castrol oil change specials. The price ends up being cheaper than walmart then. If I need a jug of M1, Motorcraft, or Pennzoil Platinum I go to walmart when the sales are not going on at AA or AZ.

Also my autozone is down the street from Walmart so they have adjusted their prices recently.

A couple of years ago a Pep Boys in my area went out of business.
I bought every quart of Mobil 1 15w-50 and Purolator oil filter they had.
Set me back $50 and I had enough filters and oil for 4 oil changes for the truck.
Thats 28 quarts of oil Mobil 1 and 4 good filters, that was one hell of a deal.

My wife thinks I am insane, probably have enough oil for the next 3 years for my vehicles and my parents and all my neighbors. I'm a weirdo but I just got $90 in rebate checks from Pennzoil and Castrol.

My wife would kill me. I did inquire and a 55 gallon drum (Delo 5w40) costs more per gallon then if you buy at walmart in jugs or pails. You have to pay for the drum too then buy a pump...

The drum has a deposit, as long as you return it you get your money back.
A good drum pump is $100+ but it will be the last one you buy.
I almost bought a 55 gal drum of coolant before I quit my coolant selling job.
But I figured the bottom of the drum would rust out before I could use it all.
But it would have been under $6 per gal of coolant.
