My son has a 5 seat 04 D2.

I just bought some 3rd row seats only -- no upper or lower interior panels, seat belts or headrests (yet). Betting on the come that I will be able to pick up seat belts and headrest separately.

Which brings me to the panels.

Can anyone with 3rd row seats provide me a template for modifying my existing lower black panels to accommodate the seat mounting brackets and the beige upper panels to accommodate the seat belt thru holes and the headrests.

This would include a template of the cut-outs and their relative location/position on the panel itself.

Since it looks like it is only a matter of cutting them out carefully (more so on the black panels as they are exposed when the seats are down and locked; on the upper beige panels, there appears to be a thru-cap/cover that covers the opening for the seat belts), I am guessing that someone must have done this before rather than buying new panels.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

my suggestion is to find a 7-seater @ your local recycler an get the interior panels, headrest and seat belts required for the conversion. Drilling holes and piecing out the rest of the upgrade doesn't make sense for what this vehicle is. Butcher your deer lease blazer or farm truck. With the outstanding availability of parts, it's too cheap & easy to do a proper modification. I really don't even see how you can install the 3rd row seats without the accompanying panels; it would like $hit & they wouldn't function properly, as in stow-away.

 

Does the 5-seat even have the lock points in the floor that the rearmost seats need to hook into?

 

It has the bolt holes, but not the actual lock hardware.

 

guy who sold me the seats said that there wasn't any latches on the floor -- rather the seats folded down and locked in a cantilevered fashion, i.e., no contact with the floor.

Is this not right?

 

That is not correct. They clip into latches on the floor.

Guess I have a lot of "incidental" parts I need to forage for now.

I liken us LR guys to squirrels: store parts in the good times so they're available when things dry up.

 

There are a lot of little "behind the scenes" parts. I did this swap on my 02 and was going to cut my panels like you, but found a se7 in a u pull yard, and gutted it. Off the top of my head:
1. The rear seats need clips and trim for the floor, yours has the threaded holes for those under the carpet, but not the plastic anchors that the trim screws into but the holes for the anchors are there too
2. the upper seat belt mounts with a bolt, which is pre-threaded on yours
3. The lower seatbelt mount requires a bracket off a se7, but the hole to mount that bracket is on yours
4. The seat frames mount to the sides with 2 bolts and 2 studs, yours will not have the studs, but you will have threaded holes for the studs and bolts, I elected to use 4 bolts, but due to the seat frames being spring loaded, it really sucks getting the bolts to thread, probably easier to take the threaded holes on your side behind the lower panel and thread in studs in the lower two holes.
