I am considering rebuilding my 4.0. I would like some response from people that have been inside this engine, or have removed this from a Disco 1. I have been reading the manual on the steps to remove this one, but i would like to hear about any snags or unexpected things that happened to them! Also, if anyone has done this, where is a good source for internal parts?

 

Any chance you know what kind of damage happened to the engine you want to rebuild?

 

I have had mine out twice and completely rebuilt a 4.0 twice. I have a 98 D1. If you have some mechanical skills it's not that difficult. I use a supplier out of Maryland I'll have to look for his phone number. I got all of my parts from him and he is very reasonable.

 

my main bearing at the back of the engine is starting to wear. i could see a little piece of that bearing starting to come out of that cap. its not bad, there is no noise unless it gets really hot (like pulling a boat in 90 degrees), other than that, it always runs great. since it started making some noise, it has been only 100 miles so it should be fine. I expect to regrind the crank, or get a new one, but hopefully, the engine will not need a line bore. Sean, I also have a 98 disco, pm me, I would like to talk more.
