Default Auto Trans Rebuild Suggestions?

I have had my Disco 1 for over 6months and have just not had time to mess with it. The trans is junk I am sure it moves fine in reverse but it will barely move itself forward on anything but flat ground.

I am planning to rebuild it myself with help from a friend that has rebuilt many auto trans. Is the Bently Manual a good manual to get for showing anything for rebuilding the auto trans? What kind of special tools will I need?

Also is there anything to get besides a complete rebuild kit like a torque converter or anything to upgrade it a little bit? I plan to offroad this truck and also drive it around on all kinds of roads and highways often. I do not plan to run tires bigger than 265/75/16s. Some towing will be done but nothing that weighs more than a few fourwheelers. Will a stock rebuild be sufficient?

Ive been reading posts on and off for the past couple of months and riding some nice trails with atvs and it makes me want to get the Rover going to take those trails with it.
Thanks people.
