what is the normal cost to rebuild an automatic transmission for a 97 d1?

Alot, what is wrong with yours, how many miles on it?

 

155000 miles... it wont engage 1st when put into drive or when you slow down to the point that it would normally shift into first... instead it just goes to neutral... so i have to manually put it into first from a stop and then once i am moving i can shift it into drive... it works fine in this way and i have no other issues with it... but i am not sure if it will last in this way forever so i am just tryin to find out how much i should be saving up to have it rebuilt or replaced... i am dropping the pan and changing the trans filter and fluid later this week, i dont believe that will alleviate the problem, but i am doin it anyway...

It's gonna be at least a couple grand. Rebuilding is a good idea before it fails totally.

You can buy a professionally rebuilt 97 auto trans at RoverLandParts for $1100.

 

Roverlandparts is the way to go, unless you find a local yard that will sell you one, with a guarantee for less.
