AUX cooling fan coming on when at idle
#11
Guys,
Put my Made in China Scanner in live mode.
It does a good job of live readings of temps..
Interesting...
If I just idle and sit there - I will go from say 203 to 208 degrees F in a minute or two.
Aux fan comes on and it will hold at 210 F. This is a 58 degree F day here today.
Aux fan seems to go off at around 202 F to 200 Degress F.
On the highway - up a hill at 40 MPH - temp will climb up to 205.
Coasting down a hill - on the interstate temp will lower to 194 Degrees F and not
go below that.
Having the temp vary 15 degrees F all the time is going to make expansion / contraction.
MAYBE THIS is why the head gaskets seem to "wear out" on some D2's around 100K????
Sludged radiator?
And the temps going up and down multiple times by 15 degrees like a yoyo?
Figure I had better get on this and fix it.
New radiator is in my future.
Thanks for all the tips and sources for parts!

OK guys
and roverchick
New radiator in hand.
Just came fresh from Fedex.
Ready to pull out the old "possibly plugged radiator" and put this one in.
Looked at the new Radiator.
connection for upper, lower hoses.
and the sensor.
Are there any hints on making the job easier?
Does anything go wrong on this job?
Somehow I got the head gaskets replaced myself and never had to touch the radiator.
Thankfully, there is no oil cooling on a D2 radiator and no transmission cooling.
OK then, that's what is BETTER about a D2 compared to a D1.
