Back from the dead!
Hey all. Bought a 2003 Discovery SE (totally rebuilt engine), low miles, super nice, late last year. A couple months ago I saw a 2003 SE7 sitting next to an old shop, same tan interior, So I thought I'd inquire. Great body parts, but sunroof broken out to steal the radio. Owner would sell it for $1000, so I took it. He explained it was an everyday driver, but then started running rough, then stopped. He told me it needed a new "camshaft sensor" and ran well, but it sat for a bit, and he lost interest when the radio was stolen.
Buying it for parts, but when I put a battery in, it cranked easily. Fired and sputtered with ether. So, what the heck, I'll give it a try. Put gas in the tank and fired off and sputtered a bit too. But I was wondering if he meant "crankshaft sensor".
So, I ordered both from Atlantic British (thanks for the tips on here guys!). Installed them both, and today tried starting it. Fired right off but wouldn't keep running. I noticed all the lights disappeared though. Tried again, same thing. So, I held the key and pushed in, and it kept running, reasonably well! Tried forward and reversive, both worked. So, I may want to make it a driver.
Anybody have any idea about what might be happening to the ignition switch? Truck was sitting for about 9 years is my guess. Corroded internal contacts? Bad lubrication?
Thanks in advance, any thoughts are appreciated!
