Default Ball hitch drop

Hi

I need to collect a trailer I bought. The trailer hitch is 16 inches from the ground. My disco II hitch receiver is 16" off the ground. Does this mean that I need a 2" drop hitch.

I know this sounds obvious but I dont want to drive 700 miles and find I have the wrong type

Well if both are the same height off the ground then I would go with a 1" drop draw bar and turn it upside down, so that it has a 1" lift, then when you connect the trailer the rear of the truck will still be the same height as the trailer.

You may just need to experiment with the drop that you need.
If you have SLS they truck will raise to level when you add the trailer.

A 2" drop hitch will put the top of the ball at the same height as the top of the receiver opening, more or less. I would use the 2 inch drop and call it good. How heavy is the trailer?

This seems like a good place to ask my question. Where are you supposed attach the safety chains on a D1? I hooked up my trailer today to take it for a cruise around the storage lot trying to avoid the tires dry rotting from sitting too long and found that there is no place for safety chains to attach. Other than that the Disco towed the trailer great. My trailer is just a 7x14 enclosed cargo trailer that is 2200 pounds empty. I use it for storage most of the time so it has probably 800 pounds of stuff inside. The rear suspension didn't even swat under that load.

Eiter will be fine, one way or the other the trailor rarely sets totally level anyway.
If you are really loading the trailor up and you don't have the air suspension, then I wouldn't go for any drop at all or the trailor will be nose heavy leaning towards the ground.
