Battery Drain
Morning Folks,
Hope all is well.
Apologies in advance for the novel
Hope to get some advice on my beloved 2003 D2 ES TD5.
It’s currently sitting on 65K from new, it is used once every 2 - 3 weeks as i work away a lot so just sits in the drive. I had battery replaced around 4 years ago and if it’s not used weekly it’s guaranteed it needs a jump start.
Last had it out for a 150 mile trip, parked up & went to use it a fortnight later for approx 20 mile trip started fine, parked it up went to use it last week after sitting for 2 weeks and the central locking etc & ignition lights went on went to crank it and it struggled and failed too.
Not to familiar with these motors or what could be causing it so looking for some advice. A few people have said it could be a PARASITIC drain, question is where do I start ??
TIA

I don’t know if this is your issue. My D2 can sit for a month and fire right up. The one time my battery went dead I was on a week long canoe trip. I thought I would make extra sure that the battery would be fine when I got back to it, so I locked the doors manually instead of with the fob. It seems that the BCU might not fully go to sleep if it wasn’t locked with the fob. No one has confirmed that this is indeed the case, but a few of us have experienced the same thing.
Maybe start by measuring the amps through each of the engine bay fuses whilst the engine is off. Find which one has the highest amps (or milliamps), then follow that downstream according to the wiring diagram until you find where the load is. Then the errant load can be disconnected.
Alternative, simply disconnect the battery negative when it's parked. Especially important during freezing weather to not let the battery discharge completely, otherwise liable to damage the battery due to freezing.
