That depends a lot on tires. My 2004 has Toyo's and they are fantastic. My 96 has no name Maypops that sound like a herd of buffalo.

dont get me wrong i do miss rowing through the gears on the 6sp and the sound of the I-6 whirling up to speed. the electric lockers were cool as well,,,

but it was too small, got horrible MPG's, was darty on the road, loud on the highway. it was a jeep. but new it was $32k and i could not justify the payments anymore for something that was a weekend/3 day a week driver. and when i wanted to camp i had no room for dog + gear etc.

the disco is every bit as good off road (with proper tires and suspension) has more room, not as common (depending where you live), same MPG's, much nicer place to be in while driving, parts both factory and aftermarket are about the same in $$$, planted when driving on road, nice balance between wheelbase being too long and too short. found my 04 as a one owner lease return from L.A. with 48k miles and paid $12k OTD. was kind of a no brainer

plus,,,

Exactly the reasons for me wanting an 04 Disco. I am looking for something around that price range that you bought yours, that price being the very max.

My Cherokee rattles everywhere and being the fact that I am 6'1", it is very uncomfortable to drive.

This is it:

im 5'11 and the only issue i have is the steering wheel not raising high enough for when i get in and out and mashing my thighs. im 180lbs so i am not fat either. i might look into modifying the steering wheel adjustment to lock higher. i need it.

i live in seattle area and here land and range rovers are a status vehicle and therefore much higher in price then in most parts of the country. at the time in 08 the economy was just melting down here so used car prices had not shot up yet. i just dodged that bullet. the dealer was a indy dealer who only dealt with used euro vehicles and since i walked in with a hefty down and pre-approval it was easy to make a deal for 3k off their asking.

it is not uncommon to see LR dealers selling 04's around seattle for $18k. NUTS!!!

i say if you are willing to spend $12k for a 04 depending on where you live that will buy you a cherry rig,,,

i will also note that my friend was given a jeep cherokee by his girl friend and he sold it and bought his 97' D1. again,,,, he has no regrets

Damn you have a nice 2004! I forgot to edit my profile but I live in Miami so it probably is a status symbol here also. People look at me crazy for wanting to buy a D2 to get dirty. Imagine that.

Funny story about your friend that got a Cherokee lol.

a bit of a brighter pic,,,

my parents bought a range rover last year. definitely for its status. white and my dad had the silver accent pieces all painted black. looks really nice, but they hate to get it dirty. where as i am up in the mountains with my rover all the time. round here rangies stay clean as do 99% of landys.
