When I got my disco 2-3 years ago, all was quiet but since I've changed out the power steering pump, the belt squeals so loudly when it's below 50 degrees that it's embarrassing. I ended up putting the non-ace belt on for other reasons and noticed no squeal.

I then took the disco in to a rover specialty shop which called me and said there was a 'red' liquid on the belt/pulleys which I immediately called bull on as I had just put the new belt on minutes before driving to their shop. I have no leaks at the moment. I told them not to fix anything and I'd come get the vehicle.

I have replaced all pulleys including tensioner pulley to no effect and this has not been alleviated by putting on new belts. Help!

 

wait. are you saying it only squeals with ace belt? ace pump okay?

 

Yes, only with the longer ACE belt and only when its cold out. It didn't make a noise all summer. The ACE system is working fine with the exception that it seems on long drives over an hour at highway speeds, I get an amber ace light that goes away if I turn off the disco and then turn it back on....only to turn on again at some point later in the drive.

My concern is that maybe since replacing the PS pump, the pulley sits a little more proud or flush than it did with the old pump which could cause a subtle alignment issue with the ACE pulley?

I'm not sure how easy that ACE pump should turn by hand but I did notice it has more resistance than I expected.
